Kyle VanDruten, Software/Automation Engineer
I’ve been with the E Technologies for 4 years.
What type of engineer are you? Do you have a degree? If so, what was your discipline?
I am a Software/Automation Engineer and I got a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology.
What made you get into this line of work? What made you realize this was the right career path for you?
I had an internship with E Technologies Group during my senior year of college. During this experience, I developed a deep love for controls and automation that has stuck with me to this day. I remember that my first experience at a customer site (where I got to finally see the work we were doing in action) was where I determined that this was the right field for me.
What excites you about the field?
The never-ending possibilities of what can be done when the right minds are on the job. This industry is ever-expanding and with the right people, some incredible things can be done. The industry of Manufacturing Automation will always be around. With the need for machines to work smarter and more efficiently, we won’t be out of work anytime soon.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in pursuing engineering?
Engineering is a very gratifying field to work in because the challenge always yields gratifying results. In this industry, you need to be willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done (work long hours, travel for long periods of time, and keep your priorities in line).
What was your favorite project to work on?
My favorite project is the current project I am working on. Without giving too many details, this project is my first experience with smart manufacturing. It is very challenging and very rewarding. We make things happen even when the manufacturer tells us it is not going to work. We push the boundaries of what is possible in manufacturing.
What do you like most about working at E Tech?
I enjoy the positive work environment. Everyone is very encouraging and helpful when complications arise in a project environment.
What are your hobbies? What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy golfing, boating, and the outdoors in general.
